The Stretch That Stays With You: The importance of yoga in surf
Hey everyone!
There’s something quietly magical about the way a yoga practice can sneak into your life.
It starts on the mat, maybe with stiff hamstrings or a racing mind, but before long, it spills over. Into the way you move through your day. The way you breathe through a tough moment. The way you hold yourself, not just physically, but emotionally too.
That’s why we’re so excited to share that Megan Gilbride will be joining us on all our Marnie Rays retreats this year, guiding our yoga and stretch sessions with her signature approach: gentle, grounding, and deeply intuitive. Megan brings something special, she doesn’t just teach yoga; she holds space. For softness, for strength, and for everything in between.
You can get to know her more here, but trust us when we say: you're going to love her.
Yoga Between the Waves
Surfing asks a lot of your body. Shoulders that paddle strong, hips that twist with the turn, legs that hold steady through every wobble. But it also asks something more subtle: presence. Patience. A willingness to be exactly where you are, without rushing to the next wave.
That’s where yoga comes in. It meets you in the quiet moments between the ocean. It helps your body recover and recalibrate, yes, but it also teaches you how to tune in. To notice what needs attention. To breathe deeper. To let go.
On retreat, our yoga sessions aren’t about headstands or hand-balancing. They’re about feeling good in your skin. Big, juicy stretches after surfs, gentle movement to bring you back to yourself, and moments of stillness to soak it all in.
Why This Matters
In a world that often tells us to push harder, go faster, and achieve more, we’re here to do the opposite. To slow down. To stretch it out. To listen to our bodies. Not because we want to “fix” them, but because we want to live fully in them.
Megan’s classes will be a core part of that intention. Whether you're brand new to yoga or it's already a part of your life, you’ll find something grounding, welcoming, and real.
We hope you’ll join us to unroll a mat on a Marnie Rays retreat this year, whether it’s abroad or at home by the beautiful Cornish coast, we’ve created something special in every location.
Take a look and choose your destination.
Because the best stretches? They’re the ones that stay with you, long after the mat is rolled up.
Love,
Lindsey xx
